At Dove House we recognise that our learners are individuals, we recognise that they learn in different ways and we understand that one pathway through Key Stage 4 is becoming less appropriate to the varying needs of our learners. In response to this we have carefully designed a 3 pathway approach to offer each learner a route which will best meet their learning styles, engage them and of course, help to prepare them for their future.

 

Academic Pathway

This pathway will give the full opportunity for pupils to achieve GCSE/BTEC/NCFE qualifications where appropriate in all of the following core subjects which include:

*  English

*  Maths

*  Science        

*  PE

*  LEAP (Learning, Employability and Progression)  including careers and Transition, citizenship, Sex and Relationships and money skills.

 

Plus they will also take three of the following subjects:

*  Art

*  Digital media             

*  Resistant Materials                

*  Textiles                                               

*  Food  

*  Computing

*  History

*  Performing Arts

 

Foundation Learning Pathway

Within this pathway the accredited core subjects include:

*  English

*  Maths

*  Science

*  Technology

*  PE

*  Performing Arts

*  Foundation Package including: ICT, Humanities and Cooking Skills

*  Life Skills

 

Life Skills is a specially designed hands on course containing a broad and varied combination of short units to improve specific and generalised skills covering a range of subject areas. It is highly practical and involves units such as cooking, shopping skills, using public transport, health and hygiene, money skills , road safety, gardening, health and safety, as well as many others.  The course is assessed through practical and assignment based tasks, pupils taking this course have the opportunity to achieve a certificate or diploma at E3-L1. Previous pupils have enjoyed this course immensely and have grown in confidence whilst learning and underpinning a vast range of transferable skills. 

 

 

Vocational Pathway

 

Within this pathway the accredited core subjects include:

*  English

*  Maths

*  Science

*  PE

*  Preparing for Adulthood (embedded in Vocational curriculum)

 

As part of the Vocational Pathway pupils will also be timetabled work experience for one afternoon every week in a range of workplace settings, helping to build up key employability skills and experience.  At school, pupils will be taking part in vocational sessions gaining practical skills and qualifications at Entry 3/Level 1 which will then be transferable to the workplace (to use during an apprenticeship) or to continue onto further vocational education at Post-16.

Along with this, pupils on this pathway will take two qualifications in the following:

*  Resistant Materials

*  Textiles

*  Food

*  Computing

*  History

*  Performing Arts
