Governance

Governors have a very important overseeing role in a school. They are there to support, challenge and be accountable for all aspects of the school. This is referred to as governance.

The effectiveness of governance in a school can be shown by how well the governors:

  • Contribute to the school self-evaluation.
  • Support the school’s leadership.
  • Hold the school leaders accountable for the teaching and learning in the school, pupils achievement and safety.
  • Make sure that all statutory duties are met.
  • Engage with stakeholders – parents and pupils, local authority.
  • Use the Pupil Premium and other resources to aid the learning of the pupils.

Key responsibilities are:

Strategically
