Our aim for World Studies is to promote a love of learning and a broad understanding of the world the around us. The subject is split into four areas: History, Geography, Religious Education and The Modern World. Learners will gain a broad understanding of issues within these areas to enable them to become independent and active members of society. Lessons may be academic-based to stretch all learners in this area, or more visual and practical so as to appeal to all learning styles. Each area of learning and each topic within World Studies will be taught at a level and depth appropriate to each pupil.
Within each area of World Studies pupils will increase their knowledge of the different topics studied. Specific facts such as significant names, dates, and key vocabulary will be taught. Pupils will also look at different themes within the Christian, Buddhist, and Islamic faiths during their Religious Education (RE) lessons.
Pupils will develop their skills in each area. For example; analysing historical sources, map skills, and using appropriate ICT packages to present information.
Pupils will also develop their understanding of processes in each area. They will look at, for example, the cause and/or effects of events in history such as the Battle of Hastings, and the processes at work in the water cycle.
