On placement, pupils will experience the types of practical skills needed to be a valuable and useful employee. Back at school, in our specialist vocational provision, we intend to train pupils up in the basic skills needed to support the work they are exposed to. This may include areas such as basic mechanics, painting and decorating, hair and beauty, animal skills, hospitality, childcare or floristry.
Employability skills are fundamental to the success of this pathway as they underpin the work ethic and skills needed to succeed in the workplace. Pupils will learn the importance of customer service, telephone skills, interview technique and CV writing, time management, safety in the workplace and much more.
Pupils complete 5 work placements over KS4. The placements are timetabled into their learning for one afternoon every week. Activities are set each week for pupils to complete on placement with their mentor. Pupils will receive a monitoring visit from school during each placement to check their progress. Placements are organised to give pupils a variety of experiences.
Vocational Learners will achieve a certificate at Entry Level 3 or Level 1
