Dove House Academy

Uniform Policy

We want all our pupils to look smart when at school and feel proud to wear their uniform. We believe that wearing a school uniform enhances a feeling of belonging.

We also believe that wearing school uniform prevents the inevitable loss of self- esteem caused to individual pupils if they are unable to keep up with the latest fashion.

At Dove House Academy, we:

  • avoid listing uniform items based on sex, to give students the opportunity to wear the uniform they feel most comfortable in or that most reflects their self-identified gender
  • allow students to wear religious or cultural symbols
  • ensure uniform is affordable, in line with statutory guidance from the Department for Education

From time to time, some issues of safety and comfort for individual students, which may necessitate some changes to the normal uniform, can be taken into consideration.

If you feel your child may need an alternative due to their SEN or sensory requirements, please contact their tutor who will be happy to support you in finding a suitable alternative.

Watches:   Students may wear small, discreet watches which must be removed for PE. Watches that also act as step counters can be worn during PE, except for contact sports. Otherwise, students will be asked to remove them. All watches must be removed for exams.
Make-Up:   Make up should be very subtle. Coloured nail varnish and acrylic nails are not permitted.
Hoodies:   Hoodies with or without zips are not part of school uniform. Hoodies worn to school as coats must be left in lockers during the school day. Hoodies found in school will be confiscated until the end of the day.
All tems should have some form of discreet personal identification such as a label with the child’s name written on it so that they can be returned to the owner if misplaced.
