Trip to the Battlefields, Belgium

Two pupils were lucky to be able to take part in the Government’s First World War Centenary  programme (http://www.centenarybattlefieldtours.org/battlefield-tours/battlefield-tours-landing-page) with Mrs Read and Mr Dupont and pupils from 5 other schools across the country.

Stephen Browne and Eddie O’Halloran-Price were chosen because of their love of History and WW1.  The trip started on Sunday 5th March in Kent with team building activities and a research task (two local soldiers who died and whose bodies were never found) both of whom lived within ½ a mile of the school.

Days two and three involved visiting various sites in both Belgium and France from Ypres to The Somme area including memorials to allied soldiers, and cemeteries for the fallen on both sides of the conflict.  The trip allowed students (and staff) to consider the impact of the First World War then and now and challenged preconceptions.  It also encouraged thinking about the act of remembrance and it’s place in todays  society.

On the last day all the pupils and staff had the chance to make a figurine as part of the Coming World Remember Me project (http://www.comingworldrememberme.be/en)

February 2017

Anvil Arts

On Tuesday 28th February the whole of Year 7 were incredibly brave and ventured onto the stage at The Anvil as they saw the culmination of their "The Navigator" project.  With our link with "Anvil Arts", Year 7 had been fortunate enough to participate in several Music workshops with professional musicians where they explored the silent movie "The Navigator".

During the workshops, pupils contributed to the creation of the sound score for the film.  This included composing and singing songs relevant to the film, creating sound effects and reading lines in character.

All of this was recorded and a very clever musician then put it with the film so it ran as the sound score.

On the evening at The Anvil, pupils and parents got to see the final result, alongside pupils providing additional "live" elements consisting of providing sound effects and the singing of songs which added to the narrative of the film.

The pupils were absolutely excellent throughout the whole project, both in their behaviour, creativity and dedication to the performance.  They were amazing!

Exam Results!

We are delighted with the results for all Dove House students many of whom have surpassed all expectations. Students and staff have worked incredibly hard this year to achieve such fabulous results thus enabling them to have choice about where to go for their Post 16 provision including those who will become the very first cohort for the new Dove House Post 16 centre. Congratulations to all Year 11 students, they should all be very proud of their achievements.
